When to Split a PDF
Splitting a PDF is useful when you need to extract specific pages from a larger document. Common scenarios include separating individual chapters from an ebook, pulling out signed pages from a contract while leaving drafts behind, or dividing a large presentation into smaller handouts for different audiences.
You can split by page range (e.g., pages 1-5, 8, 11-13) or extract every page as its own PDF. The tool works with any PDF length and is limited only by your browser's available memory.
How PDF Splitting Works
The split tool uses pdf-lib to read your PDF document and create new PDFs from selected pages. Each extracted page retains its original text, images, and formatting because pdf-lib copies the underlying page objects directly. For the "split every page" mode, the tool generates one PDF per page and triggers parallel downloads in your browser.
Tip: If splitting a large document into single pages, close other browser tabs to free up memory for faster processing.
