How to Rearrange Pages in a PDF
August 8, 2026
A document with pages in the wrong order is worse than no document — a contract where page 4 follows page 1, a scan pile fed in reverse, annexes shuffled into the middle of a report. Fixing it used to mean recreating the whole file. Today you can drag and drop pages into the right order in your browser, in under a minute.
When You Need to Rearrange Pages
- Multi-page scans: documents loaded into the scanner tray backwards or out of sequence.
- Combined files: a PDF assembled from several sources where the section order needs cleanup.
- Version merges: someone merged an old draft and a new draft; now pages from both are interleaved.
- Unwanted pages: a stray cover sheet, blank page, or duplicate page that has no business in the final file.
How to Reorder and Delete Pages
Our Reorder Pages tool gives you a visual page editor:
- Open the Reorder Pages tool.
- Upload your PDF (up to 50 MB). Thumbnails of every page render instantly using PDF.js.
- Drag and drop thumbnails into the order you want — the arrangement updates in real time, and the page counter follows along.
- Remove unwanted pages by clicking the X on a thumbnail. Made a mistake? The Undo button restores deleted pages, so you can experiment freely.
- Click Download Reordered PDF when the order looks right.
Reordering is applied with pdf-lib entirely in your browser — your document never touches a server.
Order Matters: Build a Routine
Getting pages right once is cheaper than redoing it later. A good habit: after uploading any scan or merged file, flip through the thumbnails before downloading. Two-minute check, zero embarrassment. And if you're assembling a document from separate files, first merge the PDFs and then reorder the combined result — or reorder first and merge in the final sequence, whichever is less work.
Related Fixes for Messy PDFs
Page-order problems rarely travel alone. If the document also has sideways pages, fix those after reordering with the Rotate PDF tool — it works page by page with a live preview. If the file has pages you need to keep but out of a larger set, use Split PDF to extract them as a separate file instead of deleting.
